An unofficial iPhone app Store is now open!

A new online store for iPhone called Cydia is now opened for iPhone fans. Cydia Store offers the goods which are paid for unauthorized apps for jailbroken iPhones. Cydia Store will sell hundreds iPhone apps which aren’t available through Apple’s official store, and they require Jailbroken iPhones. For example their is one application for turning the iPhone into a modem for laptop and another turns the iPhone into a camcoder, or it could also include adult games, which are not sold in Apple’s App Store. So you can get this apps in Cydia Store. Cydia is the kind of installer that has available for a while. Thats according to the Cydia creator, Jay Freeman, who decided to go a step further and open a app store. Cydia Store will charge a commission rate similar to that used by Apple for App Store iPhone apps, but will offer a different range of applications. These will be the apps Apple deems unsuitable for the App Store and that got rejected; as well as those from developers who just bypass the App Store route completely. Payments will be handled via Amazon Payments, but they will switch to PayPal before too long due to popular demand. Apple already looked like it was getting ready to take action against jailbreaking solutions. A statement (PDF) filed with the U.S. Copyright Office in February stated that jailbreaking the iPhone is illegal under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. If it happens then Cydia Store will be closed due to illegal stuffs. Apple hasn’t taken any legal action against companies preparing their own iPhone application stores. Last month, the company filed a 27-page statement with the U.S. Copyright Office, making the case that modifying the software on the iPhone is illegal.

Apple do have proof that it is illegal, so however but it could take a bit time. Cydia Store is a bit controversial but could be a popular destination for iPhone users and could grow its base of available applications.  It’s true that many applications are free. But there are also thousands of applications that cost 99 cents or more. Piper Jaffray estimates that Apple’s App Store generated about $150 million in sales last year and projects that total sales will grow to $800 million this year, the Journal reported.
