The latest buzz on the Internet is that the long awaited new iPhone will exhibit a magnetometer, aka a digital compass too in addition to all rocking features already making headlines.
Screen shots revealing the inclusion of digital compass feature has been leaked which confirms the news.

The integration of a digital compass and GPS will make navigation more efficient and easy to use.
Supposedly, the new feature enables the iPhone user to know the direction in which they are facing.

It is also reported that this feature provides an option to switch on and off the compass functionality.
Apparently, the digital compass for new iPhone will allow users to access Google Maps in “Compass mode.”
The feature would work off of an on-board magnetometer jammed somewhere into the guts of the device. The screenshots look like the real deal, but still, chalk this up as rumor for now

Digital compass was used earlier by T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic and is already a proven effective tool.
